4D Integrated Steel Delivery
BIM technology has evolved into a new Design / Build methodology known as IPD (Integrated Project Delivery). By utilizing BIM technology, the traditional design team is joined by other trade subcontractors to contribute their collective input in the design phase of a project in a collaborative effort that is then Integrated into the final design. 4D can share our extensive experience and expertise in a process we call "4D Integrated Steel Delivery" ™(ISD). With ISD our role and function remains much the same, but is moved into the preconstruction design collaboration phase of the project to maximize the benefits and minimize the costs.
Key benefits that the "4D Integrated Steel Delivery" ™ adds to an IPD project: • Importation of structural analysis and/or design models for better coordination • Preemptive discovery and resolution of design conflict, clarification or omission issues before completion of the final construction documents avoiding future delays and costs. • True collaborative and non-adversarial mediation of these design issues. • Significantly reduced or eliminated Change Orders relative to structural steel and related work. • The Structural Engineer can focus on the steel design, while 4D creates the accurate 3D model which is used for clash detection and creation of structural steel shop drawings. • Levels the playing field by assuring that all fabricators are bidding on the exact same scope. • Customization of shop drawing presentations to meet the fabricators detailing standards. • All material quantities are derived from the steel model for quick, easy and accurate take-offs leading to more competitive and complete bids. Material can be ordered before, during or after the award of the steel contract to take advantage of rolling schedules and fluctuating material costs. • Eliminates the lengthy, time consuming and costly shop drawing approval process. • Helps facilitate program certainty due to the ‘problem solving’ being done at the earliest possible stage. |
