Traditionally a topping out ceremony is held when the last beam is placed at the top of a building. But with record setting weather conditions in New York City this past winter causing major delays for all projects, the pre-scheduled topping out ceremony was somewhat symbolic. In fact the traditional “last beam”, which was painted white so all parties present could sign it, was actually a stand in substitute for the real one that would make the trip to the top, without a flag or fanfare, weeks later.
The event, which was hosted by Gotham construction, the GC for the project, was well attended by all the principal personnel from every contractor, supplier and subcontractor who contributed to the project. Our valued client, Cives Northern who fabricated the project, was represented by Ted Totten (President-GM), Rory Guma (V.P. Sales & Marketing), Tyler Estabrooks (Project Manager) and Darren Weber (Project Engineer). Also present for Cives were representatives from A. J. McNulty & Co., Inc., the erector subcontracted by Cives and they were kind enough to invite me to attend as well.
At the end of the event, Cives handed out custom printed commemorative aluminum mini-beams to thank their contributors on the project, which included 4D Global Group. We are very grateful and proud to have been a part of their team.
“4D raised the bar in detailing excellence on the 250 East project. With complex connections and many changes to the building, 4D was able to keep schedule and deliver detail drawings on time. This is one of the many reasons Cives continues to use 4D on its projects.” Tyler Estabrooks (Cives Northern Project Manager)
